To discover the first Xiaomi / Leica smartphones, you will have to wait

The smartphones gathered in the Xiaomi 12S series, freshly announced, will not be marketed outside Chinese borders. We will therefore have to wait to discover the fruits of the partnership between Xiaomi and Leica.

The week started strong for Xiaomi, which last Monday presented its new series of high-end smartphones, the 12S. Called to take over from the Xiaomi 12 series, of which we tested the eponymous model and the 12 Pro version, the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro and 12S Ultra benefit from a very high-end technical sheet, and logically refreshed compared to that of their elders. They are thus equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, which replaces the 8 Gen 1.

However, it was the Ultra model that caught the attention of telephony enthusiasts. And for good reason: if it benefits, like the other two terminals, from the brand new partnership forged with Leica, it is not content to display the stamp of the German manufacturer. The smartphone is indeed equipped with a one-inch sensor, that is to say the largest on the mobile market, Xiaomi ensuring that its entire surface is used. It is accompanied by wide-angle optics signed Leica and benefits from optimized software processing with the equipment manufacturer.

The announcement of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and the rest of the series was made in China, giving hope for a slightly later release in our country. Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, nevertheless spoke on the subject and showered the hopes of those concerned. As reported by our colleagues fromEngadgethe said that the series would be reserved for the Chinese market. “Our strategic imaging technology partnership will have a long-term impact far beyond the part of this series, in international markets.” Suffice to say that we will have to wait until the Xiaomi 13, which will logically succeed the Xiaomi 12 in the spring of 2023.
