After a year that is better to forget, Call of Duty should return to success thanks to the next opus just made official by Activision. In 2022, the publisher will bet on Modern Warfare 2, a safe bet.
The Call of Duty saga is currently not in its best shape: the latest installment, titled Vanguard, was a huge fiasco (we still remember the sad single player campaign), while the Battle Royale Warzone, which was not designed to receive several major updates, would be “broken”. Activision and Infinity Ward are not saying much about this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which should be available at the end of the year on the usual platforms (PC and console). The phrase ” The new Call of Duty era is coming still suggests big behind-the-scenes maneuvers to get some oil back into the engine. Because if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was a huge success – the biggest of the franchise, according to Activision – it was not followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020) and Call of Duty: Vanguard (2021). The choice to leave on a continuation makes it possible to minimize the risks.
