December 30 (Reuters) – The Tokyo Stock Exchange ended lower Thursday, the last day of 2021 in Japan, but the Nikkei index posts its highest annual close since 1989 and gains 4.91% overall of the year.
The Nikkei index lost 0.40% to 28,791.71 points, while the larger Topix index lost 0.30% to 1,993.07.
Japanese stocks have been buoyed this year by the effect of economic stimulus measures and the optimism linked to the post-pandemic recovery.
