Tom Beck: He has this tip for the new "Masked Singer" candidates

"The Masked Singer" winner Tom Beck talks about the biggest challenge on the show and gives the new candidates a tip.

Actor and musician Tom Beck (42, "As It Is") won the second season of the hit show "The Masked Singer" in April. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, he looks back on his sweaty time on the show and reveals how the consequences of his coronavirus disease have limited him. He also has a tip ready for the new candidates and tells how things are going with his musical plans.

At the beginning of the year you were able to establish yourself as a "Masked Singer" as a sloth. How did the victory feel?

Tom Beck: Exactly how I looked when I was allowed to take off the mask! That face speaks volumes. I was overjoyed and incredibly exhausted at the same time.

The secrecy, the sweaty costumes or at least the appearances: What was the biggest challenge on the show?

Beck: The biggest challenge was maintaining secrecy over this long period of time. Not even my parents knew that I would be involved. Having to constantly fool your family and friends into something was really anything but nice. But of course that was the most important part of the game! When I was back on stage in show four 15 days after my corona illness, I was still a bit shaky on my feet and had to struggle with shortness of breath. It also changed my vocal range a little. I had to try to hide all of this as best I could …

Were you afraid of being recognized and what did you think when you heard the first tips about who might be under your costume?

Beck: Of course, it was my declared goal to confuse viewers week after week with a new style and / or voice in order not to be recognized. I managed that really well up to show five. When Ruth Moschner said my name, I was very happy that I was wearing a mask! Because of course I felt caught out and certainly couldn't have played it off well.

Are you missing your sloth costume and where did it go?

Beck: It was a really sweaty affair and I can hardly imagine that it will ever get dry again … It's probably still hanging on the clothesline.

Which team member surprised you in particular during the season?

Beck: The nice thing about the show is that all of the participants somehow surprise you. You can never be 100 percent sure. The fact that a Didi Hallervorden still sweeps across the stage at 84 surprised me the most and, of course, impressed me a lot!

What tips can you give the new candidate?

Beck: If you've made a plan for the show, the songs and your character: throw it away! Everything turns out differently anyway …

What about your musical plans?

Beck: Well, like probably all of my colleagues, I had imagined something different for 2020. I released my fourth studio album "4B" in May and of course I wanted to tour it properly. Due to the current situation, this is unfortunately out of the question at the moment and I very much hope that my tour planned for February 2021 can take place. I am currently using the time to continue writing songs.

You will be featured on the sitcom "Sister, Sister" next year. How do you feel in a doctor's coat?

Beck: Very good! I had a great time shooting with incredibly nice and talented colleagues and I'm really looking forward to seeing the result on TV soon!
