A musical, even more action and the comeback of a cult role: That’s what Tom Cruise is planning after his success with “Top Gun: Maverick”.

Tom Cruise just turned 60 – and with “Top Gun: Maverick” he had the biggest box office hit of his career. That’s no reason for the busy star to slow down. Cruise has several ambitious projects in the pipeline. His house and yard director Christopher McQuarrie (53) is involved in all planned films.

First, of course, there’s Mission: Impossible. The seventh part of the franchise is in post production, part eight is currently being filmed by Cruise and McQuarrie. The films are scheduled to hit theaters in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Action, musicals – and Les Grossmann

But “Mission: Impossible” is not enough. Tom Cruise and his favorite director are planning according to “Deadline” another action movie. Best-case scenario, it’s destined to become a Mission: Impossible-style franchise.

According to Deadline, Cruise and McQuarrie also want to try another genre. A classic musical is said to be in the works. Tom Cruise always wanted to sing and dance in front of the camera.

Cruise is also planning a comeback from Les Grossman. In “Tropic Thunder” (2008) the star played the cocky film producer for the first time. With a balding head, a stately stomach and weird dance routines, Cruise stole the show in a mini role. Whether a whole film about Grossman is planned or whether the character will appear somewhere else is still open.

Space action and “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel?

And then there’s the space project. Already two years ago circulated the messagethat Tom Cruise wants to shoot in space. NASA and Elon Musk’s (51) space company SpaceX are said to be available as cooperation partners. Christopher McQuarrie is only to produce this time. Director is Doug Liman (57). Cruise shot “Edge of Tomorrow” with him, among other things. A sequel is also planned for this time warp spectacle.
