In the American West of the 1880s, notorious criminal Frank Griffin and his band of outlaws have a mission: take revenge on Roy Goode, their ex-partner who betrayed the brotherhood. On the run, Roy finds refuge with Alice Fletcher, a hardened widow and outcast, in the isolated mining town of La Belle, New Mexico – a town built entirely and governed by women after a mining accident left her deprived of her life. most of its male population.
But things become complicated when news reaches Griffin that Roy is hiding at La Belle. The inhabitants – and especially the inhabitants – of the city will then have to band together to defend themselves against the criminal and his murderous gang.
This is a unique western mini-series of rare beauty that has nothing to envy of Yellowstone! Created, written and directed by Scott Frank, creator of Queen’s Game – which we presented to you here previously – and co-writer of films such as Minority Report and Logan, Godless is a gem of the genre, and of the small simply screen.
On the menu, a well-crafted script, a beautifully told story, superb photography and the breathtaking landscapes of New Mexico await you, as well as endearing characters carried by an excellent cast. This one is in fact led by Jack O’Connell (Invincible, Fists Against the Walls) and Michelle Dockery – far from her role as Lady Mary in Downton Abbey –, who form an improbable, absolutely captivating duo. But it’s not just them who shine: alongside them, we find the perfect Merritt Wever (Unbelievable, Marriage Story), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, Speed), Scoot McNairy (True Detective, Argo) and Sam Waterston (New York, judicial police) – to name but a few.

Named among the 10 best of 2017 by the Washington Post and Vanity Fair, the show, also co-produced by Steven Soderbergh, left its mark on the world of television – after all, it almost borders on perfection according to AlloCiné spectators who gave it a rating of 4.4 out of 5!
Indeed, from the top of its seven episodes, Godless received no fewer than 12 Emmy nominations – and won three: Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries for Merritt WeverThe same applies to Jeff Daniels on the male side, while the composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, for his part, won the prize for best original music for the show’s theme song – which, in addition to its superb melody, is also to be saluted visually.

Less classic than its sisters, Godless differentiates itself from films or other series of the western genre while coming as close as possible to a past reality through the authenticity of its settings and costumes – while (finally) giving importance to its female characters, too often left aside in westerns.
We therefore have no other choice but to let ourselves be drawn into the far west and its merciless world, on horseback and with guns, with its brutes and its thugs, its tough men and its equally tough women. .
