Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: one of Luc Besson’s most famous heroines.
Following circumstances beyond her control, a young student sees her intellectual abilities develop infinitely. She “colonizes” his brain, and acquires unlimited powers. This pitch, you may have recognized it, is that of the feature film Lucy, led by Scarlett Johansson who is one of Luc Besson’s many heroines on the big screen.
Released in theaters in 2014, Lucy was a huge hit in theaters. Luc Besson’s science fiction film, led by Scarlett Johansson, grossed nearly $470 million worldwide and attracted more than 5 million spectators to French cinemas.
It was the release of Avatar in 2010 that motivated Besson to deploy a project of such magnitude. The Frenchman, who wrote, directed and produced the film, confided at the time that he had never put “so many special effects” in one of his works.
“When I did The fifth ElementI had technological tools that were already a little obsolete”he declared on the microphone of Europe 1. “With the arrival of digital technology, it’s incredible what we can do. You can imagine anything, there will always be technicians to follow you in your madness.”
Since the feature film Lucy required more than 1,000 special effects shots, the production decided to call on the best experts in the field, including ILM (Industrial Light & Magic), the prestigious company founded by George Lucas.
Finally, we note that Lucy was mainly filmed in France. First in the premises of Luc Besson’s Cité du Cinéma in Seine-Saint-Denis, then at the Aval cliff in Étretat in Upper Normandy, and in Saint-Chely-du-Tarn in Lozère. The film crew also set up their cameras in Taipei on the island of Taiwan.
