It is rare for a channel to be able to broadcast such a recent work. This Sunday evening at 9 p.m., the Paris Première channel is broadcasting Navalny, a formidable documentary by Canadian director Daniel Roher.
Crowned Best Documentary at the 2022 BAFTAs, crowned with two awards at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards, and crowned Best Documentary at the 2023 Oscars ceremony, the film Navalny retraces the story of the famous Russian opponent, sentenced in March 2022 to 9 years in prison for fraud charges which he denies.
In August 2020, a plane connecting Siberia to Moscow was forced to make an emergency landing following the worrying illness of one of its passengers, the leader of the Russian opposition, Alexeï Navalny, suddenly fell seriously ill .
Taken to a local Siberian hospital, he was eventually evacuated to Berlin where doctors diagnosed him with Novichok poisoning, a nerve agent implicated in attacks on other opponents of the Russian government. President Vladimir Putin immediately questioned these findings and denied any involvement in the matter.
During his recovery, Navalny and his team – already followed by many social networks – have joined forces with the famous independent group of investigative journalists Bellingcat as well as other international news outlets to investigate this assassination attempt and find evidence of Kremlin involvement.
