Tonight on TV: all the answers (or almost) on one of the best action sagas

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the conclusion of a spy trilogy.

If there was one saga that revolutionized American action cinema in the 2000s, it was undoubtedly the one based on Robert Ludlum’s bestsellers, in which a former special agent stricken with amnesia tries to put the pieces of his past, while trying to escape the troops launched in pursuit.

Initiated by Doug Liman in 2002 with The Memory in the skin, before the torch was taken up by Paul Greengrass for the two following parts (The Death in the skin in 2004, then The Vengeance in the skin in 2007), the saga Jason Bourne really stood out for her extreme realistic style.

Most of the action sequences are filmed with a handheld camera, thus approaching the documentary. The close combats are also the subject of substantial work: to embody the main character, Matt Damon undergoes intensive training with several martial arts specialists in order to perform most of his stunts himself – he who does not had never played a physical role before.

This essential spy trilogy concludes brilliantly with The Bourne Ultimatumwhose story is inserted, in fact, between the penultimate scene and the last scene of The death in the skin. An impressive narrative construction, unprecedented in cinema, to the credit of Tony Gilroy.

When it was released, this frenzied thriller garnered 444 million dollars in worldwide revenue (for a budget of 110 million). In France, it totals 1.5 million admissions. On AlloCine, The Bourne Ultimatum holds a solid viewer rating average of 4/5.
