Tonight on TV: an unnoticed comedy that deserves a catch-up session

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. This evening: a film with sketches on new technologies.

Having recorded 162,370 admissions when it was released in 2019, Selfie, broadcast this evening on France 2, deserves a catch-up session.

Produced collectively by Thomas Bidegain, Marc Fitoussi, Tristan Aurouet, Cyril Gelblat and Vianney Lebasque, the film is made up of five sketches, which, according to the original idea of co-producer and co-screenwriter Julien Sibony, explore different aspects of our relationship to new technologies. Addict or technophobe, in family or at school, at work or in romantic relationships, selfie recounts the fates of Homo Numericus on the verge of a nervous breakdown…

In addition to its comic aspect, selfie – as its title suggests – turns out to be both a satirical and scathing mirror effect. The team of screenwriters (which brings together Hélène Lombard, Bertrand Soulier, Giulio Callegari and Noé Debré) hits where it hurts, pinpointing with relevance the toxic intrusion of digital technology into our lives.
Bittersweet, the message gets through, thanks in particular to the performances of comedians, comedians Manu Payet, Max Boublil and Blanche Gardin, via Elsa Zylberstein or even Finnegan Oldfield, Sébastien Chassagne and Fanny Sidney.
