On the program this Sunday evening on France 2: a great and beautiful popular comedy with Asterix and Obelix: in the service of Her Majesty! Released in theaters in 2012, the feature film, which attracted nearly four million spectators in France, plunges spectators into 50 BC. Caesar craves conquest. At the head of his glorious legions, he decides to invade this island located at the limits of the known world, this mysterious country called Brittania: Brittany.
Funny and lively, the very good child Asterix and Obelix: In the service of his Majesty is the combined adaptation of two different Asterix albums, Asterix among the Bretons And Asterix and the Normans. If director Laurent Tirard set his sights on these two comics, it’s because he wanted a “journey, of an odyssey” which would be in line with his fascination with Great Britain.
The great novelty of this new Asterix is the new interpreter of the little Gaul: Edouard Baer, who succeeds Christian Clavier and Clovis Cornillac in the skin of the famous mustachioed man. “We needed a very French Asterix. Or rather, very close to the idea that foreigners have of the French”explain Laurent Tirard. “He is more sophisticated, more intellectual and more modern. It is by writing this character that the face ofEdward Baer appeared to me. He is very French, very Parisian even.”
A pharaonic casting!
AlongsideEdward Baer and Gérard Depardieu, who lends his features to Obélix for the fourth time, we find a prestigious casting, as is the case for each cinematographic adaptation of the work of Goscinny and Uderzo. Judge for yourself: Fabrice Luchini as Julius Caesar, Vincent Lacoste as Goudurix, Valérie Lemercier, Catherine Deneuve, Dany Boon, Jean Rochefort, Gérard Jugnot and so on!
