Originally from Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Dany Boon arrived in Paris in 1989, where he began to perform on many open stages. Produced by Patrick Sébastien from 1993, the comedian gradually gained popularity with viewers, alongside his film debut as an actor.
In 2003, Dany Boon wrote the screenplay for Construction site lifewhich narrates the setbacks of the young owner of a mansion, whose delivery is delayed due to the incompetence of the workers in charge of the site.
Without response from Claude Berri, to whom he proposed it, Dany Boon finally adapted it into a play. It was after seeing it on stage that Claude Berri reconsidered his decision and agreed to make a film of it.
Dany Boon went on to direct in 2005 to bring his play to the screen. Renamed La Maison du bonheur, the film, which relies on effective situation comedy and a hilarious cast – from Dany Boon himself to Michèle Laroque, via Zinedine Soualem and Laurent Gamelon – attracts 1.1 million French people in theaters at its output.
A convincing first attempt for Dany Boon, who will go back behind the camera three years later for Welcome to the Ch’tis, which has become the biggest cinematic success in France with more than 20 million admissions at the box office.
