Tonight on TV: the day Luc Besson gave the keys to Franck Gastambide

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the fifth part of a cult saga that goes all out!

Are you fans of the supercharged automobile saga Taxi? So turn on the word… Sorry, turn on your television set and quickly tune in to TMC, which is broadcasting the fifth part this Thursday evening!

Released in theaters in 2018, Taxi 5 (without Samy Naceri, but why?) sees Sylvain Marot, Parisian super cop and exceptional pilot, transferred against his will to the Marseille Municipal Police. His mission: to stop the dreaded “Gang of Italians”, who are raiding jewelry stores with the help of powerful Ferraris.

But to achieve this, he will have no other choice than to collaborate with the great-nephew of the famous Daniel, Eddy Maklouf. The latter is the worst VTC driver in Marseille, but also the only one who can recover the legendary white TAXI.

The very energetic Taxi 5a crazy feature film full of action and humor, is directed by Franck Gastambide, the latter and Malik Bentalha succeeding the iconic duo composed of Samy Naceri and Frédéric Diefenthal.

How did the two men get there? The Pattaya director was writing an action comedy that he wanted to shoot with Omar Sy when Bentalha encouraged him to contact Luc Besson to talk to him about Taxi 5.

Gastambide so contact, on Instagram, Besson… who answers him! The appointment is made with the filmmaker at the Cité du cinéma. The latter, in the process of filming Valérian, receives Gastambide And Bentalha.

Building on the success of the Kaïra and Pattaya, Gastambide explains his reboot idea for an hour to an attentive Luc Besson. At the end of this discussion, the latter gives his agreement and Taxi 5 is launched!

When Besson calms the ardor of Gastambide

Franck Gastambide wrote Taxi 5 in collaboration with Luc Besson and Stéphane Kazandjian, also co-writer of Pattaya. According to the director, Besson represented traditional France and he the new generation, each bringing their ideas to complement each other. One, with his experience, thus calmed the ardor of the other, sometimes too extreme on certain gags.

“Besson has always ensured that it remains a Taxi and not The Kaira driving”notes Gastambide. “In one of the first scripts, I had gone a little too far. I had imagined that the wife of Malik Bentalha was a nympho and I had a running gag where Malik dropped her off in a car at a libertine club or a fire station without realizing anything. Luc told me it was really funny… but to save that joke for my next film.”

More than 3.6 million spectators attended the Taxi 5. What if you took the wheel this evening? We fasten our seat belts, sit comfortably and set off!

Tonight on TMC at 9:25 p.m.
