Tonight on TV: Tom Cruise’s most dizzying scene!

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Tom Cruise facing his fourth impossible mission.

Following the immense success of the Pixar production The Incredibles, Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2005, Tom Cruise expressed the wish to collaborate with director Brad Bird.

In 2011, this animation genius took his first live action shots for the fourth installment of the Mission: Impossible film saga, entitled Ghost Protocol.

The filmmaker immediately brings his paw to the franchise, deciding in particular to develop the secondary roles or even to mention the secret organization of the Syndicate, which will take on all its importance in the sequels. Furthermore, it makes spy Ethan Hunt a kind of superhero flirting with death during impressive and dizzying scenes.

After filming in Vancouver, Prague, Moscow and even Mumbai, Brad Bird sets up his camera in Dubai to film THE flagship sequence of Ghost Protocol – the one that allowed Tom Cruise to reconnect with the summits, both literally and figuratively.

With his bare hands (but firmly harnessed with cables), the actor trudges on about ten floors of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world, rising to more than 820 meters! The sequence is shot in three days, without recourse to the slightest double or the slightest trick.

With his double hat as headliner and producer, Tom Cruise himself performs this incredible feat worthy of a high-level stuntman. The promotion of the film is also focused on this performance, more than on the return of Simon Pegg to the cast, or even the arrival of Jeremy Renner, whose studio was planning, at the time, to make the new hero of the saga.

Winner of the Saturn Award for Best Action Film, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol thus establishes a standard that the following opuses will seek to exceed by notably involving Christopher McQuarrie.

The latter, who officiates here as a script doctor, has effectively taken over as director from the fifth part and has since ceased to amaze the spectators!

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol by Brad Bird with Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg…
