Tony Vaccaro photographed the end of World War II

Tony Vaccaro came to France as an infantryman in 1944 and photographed what he saw: dead people, people celebrating or those returning home in mourning. He later became a fashion photographer. On December 20th he will be one hundred years old. In an interview, he talks about his two careers.

The American soldier Henry Irving Tannenbaum died in a field in Belgium on the night of January 11-12, 1945. In a skirmish with the Wehrmacht, he was seriously injured along with other GIs. The survivors of the 83rd Infantry Division saw themselves unable to care for and rescue everyone in view of the numerous wounded. They saved their comrades with a headshot. So does Christmas tree.
