“Too much is too much”… Exasperated, these owners are suing the increase in the property tax

Property taxes are on the rise. Tired of undergoing it, the owners have decided to multiply the legal actions: they are attacking their town hall to have the increases canceled.

” Enough is enough ! If we had been consulted, if the increase had been smoothed over five years and if it was justified, things might have gone better. But there, there is a real tax fed up, ”denounces Auguste Lafon, the president of the National Union of Property Owners (UNPI) of Bouches-du-Rhône in Parisian.

Last year, the municipality of Marseilles actually voted for an increase in the municipal rate of 14%, which is added to the national revaluation of 3.4% of the cadastral tax. The owners therefore suffered an increase in 17.4% in total. A group action, led by the UNPI, has been launched to try to cancel the municipality’s 2022 budget and therefore the increase in property tax.

The court forced the city to revoke its 2022 budget on June 30. But the UNPI is not fooled: “What is certain is that they have already incurred expenses with the money from the property company. They don’t intend to pay back.”

Lyon, Grenoble… The owners are stepping up

Marseille is obviously not an isolated case. In Lyon, legal action has also been launched, reports The Parisian, to cancel the 9% increase of the municipal rate. “We are at the start, the decision is expected by the end of the year. In Grenoble (Isère) too, an appeal was launched at the end of May, ”said Sylvain Grataloup, president of the UNPI Rhône to Parisian.

On the other hand, if the municipal rate in Paris voted in 2023 will cause a 52% increase property tax, no legal action has yet been taken.

According to the Directorate General of Public Finances, the average increase in property tax in 2022 reached +6.1%. This year, the property tax notices for the year 2022 will be posted on the dedicated space from August 30 for non-monthly owners, and from September 22 for those who have opted for a monthly payment.
