Top Gun Maverick: Val Kilmer’s moving reaction when he saw his scene with Tom Cruise


“Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski fondly recalled the moment Val Kilmer discovered the scene he shares with Tom Cruise.

There was never really a point where we got to show him the finished scene, but he was there during its entire evolution and is obviously a key element”says Kosinski first about the famous sequence.

“But I remember the first time I showed the scene to Val Kilmer”continues the filmmaker. “It’s a very specific memory for me, because Val came to see us to watch parts of the film. There was this scene with Tom Cruise that I wanted him to see and we were obviously all a little nervous to show him , simply because we wanted him to love her.”

“But Val’s reaction was superb”concludes Joseph Kosinski. “He was so happy and so moved by this scene that it did us all a lot of good. It made us realize that, perhaps, we had done this the right way.”
