Top in energy – European flagship building of the Neue Heimat Tirol

After almost two years of construction, Europe’s largest Passive House Plus residential complex has now been completed and handed over in the market town of Rum. In addition to affordable rents with a high level of living comfort, the buildings impress with their energy efficiency. “Calculated over the course of a year, about as much energy is generated as is consumed and is therefore exemplary,” explains Hannes Gschwentner, Managing Director of Neue Heimat Tirol (NHT).

NHT has invested around 23 million euros and is now one of the leading passive house developers in Europe with more than 5,000 apartments in the passive house standard. Hannes Gschwentner: “We were still pioneers with our first systems in 1997 and were ridiculed by many in the industry. Today, the passive house is the leading standard for energy-saving construction and very topical in times of high energy prices.” District heating and 440 photovoltaic modules on the roof The 132 apartment complex is heated via a connection to the local district heating network. 440 photovoltaic modules on the roofs generate up to 150 kilowatt peak solar power. This can be temporarily stored locally and obtained very inexpensively via a tenant electricity model for the electricity requirements in the apartments or common areas.
