Topic of the day – Vacation: You should avoid these traffic jam hotspots

Drivers need patience again on the way south. Construction sites and the Karawanken Tunnel will become traffic jam hotspots.

After the end of most corona measures and because of the sharp rise in flight prices, traffic experts are expecting an extremely strong summer for travel on the motorways this year. The first major wave of travel to the popular Adriatic beaches is expected to take place at Pentecost. But as early as this coming weekend, traffic jams can form on the way south. The construction site should be passable on two lanes before Pentecost. It is also necessary to cope with some construction site areas, especially on the southern autobahn. “The construction site in the Bettlerkreuz area will be passable in two lanes in good time before the long weekends,” promises Asfinag press spokesman Walter Mocnik. When leaving for Croatia, holidaymakers should only use the international border crossings. Because Croatia is part of the Schengen area and therefore carries out border controls, long waiting times must be expected in tourist traffic. The advice of the experts: If possible, avoid rush hour and start your journey earlier or later.
