On July 14, Tor announced the release of its web browser 11.5, a version making it easier for its users to fight censorship. In addition, the settings interface has also been revamped.
Tor announced on July 14 the release of Tor Browser 11.5. This new version of its browser has features that allow its users to more easily circumvent censorship. This workaround had already started with version 10.5 of the browser.
As a reminder, Tor Browser is an internet browser that allows you to browse anonymously and safely. It is based on the Tor network, which routes traffic through network nodes and encrypts it at every step.
Version 11.5 of Tor Browser comes with a new feature, “Connection Assist”, which automatically assigns the configuration of best working bridges based on location. Thus, users no longer need to try to configure them manually to unblock Tor.
In addition, another feature of this new version is to make “HTTPS-Only” the default browsing mode (Tor Browser therefore abandons its “HTTPS-Everywhere” extension). Thus, the data exchanged between the user’s browser and the websites are encrypted and can in no way be spied on or modified. Only downside, the “HTTPS-Only” mode is not yet available on Android.
Finally, the third improvement in Tor Browser 11.5 is the Settings tab, which has been simplified to improve its readability.
