A tornado tore several people into the water in Kiel in northern Germany and caused devastation. As the Kiel fire brigade announced on Wednesday evening, seven people were injured, four of them seriously. The emergency services also cared for several slightly injured people.
Several videos circulated on Twitter showing the huge windpants over one of the city’s riverside streets, the keel line. According to the fire brigade, several rowers were thrown into the water while trying to bring two eight row boats ashore. The rescue workers were on site with a large number.
There was also damage in the Kiel-Meimersdorf development area. Several roofs were covered there. Roof tiles were also torn off in Kiel-Gaarden. According to the fire brigade, it was initially not clear whether it was one or more wind pants.
Houses were severely damaged
The German Weather Service had previously issued a severe weather warning for Schleswig-Holstein. Hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 km / h can be expected on the North Sea coast. Even on the Baltic Sea and inland there could be gusts of up to around 80 km / h at night.
It was not until August that a strong tornado in the community of Großheide in East Frisia damaged numerous houses, some of them considerably. According to a fire department spokesman, at least 50 buildings were affected and five of them were uninhabitable due to severe damage. Nobody was injured in the storm. (AFP)
