A 24-year-old in Vienna-Leopoldstadt carried out a rather ill-advised action on Monday evening. After the apparently drunk man arrived at a friend’s apartment, he quickly detonated a ball bomb. Published police images of the apartment show the terrible extent of the destruction.
Attentive passers-by alerted the emergency services at 9.40 p.m. after hearing a loud bang. Fortunately, the Vienna fire department was unable to detect any fire on site. It was accidentally ignited. According to the police, the 24-year-old was just visiting the apartment in question. During questioning, he stated that he had accidentally detonated the illegally acquired bomb when he wanted to show it to his friend. Enormous property damage The 24-year-old was slightly injured in the incident. He is in the hospital. All furniture and objects in the kitchen area as well as a glass door were severely damaged. Further firecrackers were seized. During a further investigation, several banned flash bangers were found in the apartment and seized. The 24-year-old is being reported on suspicion of endangering physical safety and violations of the Pyrotechnics Act.
