Total failure in Firefox: cloud provider triggers bug, restart helps, update is coming


On the morning of January 13, Firefox experienced a total failure. Mozilla recently kicked off 2022 with the brand new Firefox 96. But according to many user reports, the browser suddenly stopped working. Firefox could also be called up on our systems, but surfing was either not possible or only at a snail’s pace. The update service didn’t work either, and many users received crash reports instead.

“Earlier this morning Firefox was experiencing a technical issue due to a cloud provider changing the default settings, causing a Firefox HTTP/3 bug. In the meantime it is already Firefox 96.0.1 found on the Mozilla update servers. The new version is not yet actively distributed and the release notes are still in progress. Since you want to keep up the pace and deliver a new browser version every four weeks, it’s the beginning of May Firefox 100 on the plan. This version is already being tested diligently, because it’s possible that some websites choke on the three-digit user agent.

The release calendar for this year even fixes the release dates up to Firefox 107, which would be mid-November. So the framework is already in place, also for the ESR versions. The jump from version 91 to 102 takes place in the middle of the year.
