TotalEnergies: first LNG bunkering operation for a container ship in Marseille – 01/24/2022 at 11:17

(AOF) – TotalEnergies and its partner CMA CGM have carried out the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation from a ship to a container ship in the Port of Marseille Fos. The CMA CGM BALI, a 15,000 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Equivalent1) container ship powered by LNG, is deployed on the MEX 1 line which connects Asia to southern Europe.

It was refueled by TotalEnergies’ Gas Vitality, the first liquefied natural gas refueling vessel based in France, with approximately 6,000 m3 of LNG, by means of a ship-to-ship transfer at the Eurofos container terminal, while it simultaneously carried out container loading and unloading operations.

The Gas Vitality is the second liquefied natural gas refueling vessel chartered by TotalEnergies and owned by Mitsui OSK Lines, Ltd (MOL).

Achieve carbon neutrality

In 2021, oil companies will devote 4% of their expenditure to low-carbon energies, compared to only 1% in 2020. These investments nevertheless remain largely insufficient to fight against climate change, warns the International Energy Agency. They remain very unequal according to the actors. Total will invest 3 billion dollars in carbon-free energy and electricity generation this year, more than 20% of its expenditure. The group forecasts a proportion of at least 15% on average by 2025. This share is much lower for the Americans Exxon and Chevron or for the national companies of the producing countries like the Saudi Aramco, the Russian Gazprom or the Brazilian Petrobras . As for Shell, the Dutch courts recently condemned it to reduce its emissions by 45% by 2030.
