(Boursier.com) — TotalEnergies deploys its integrated gas strategy in Oman. In line with its growth strategy in natural gas and LNG, energy contributing to the transition, the group has therefore announced the start of gas production on Block 10 onshore in Oman, as well as the signing of an agreement with Oman LNG for a long-term LNG purchase contract. TotalEnergies reports the start of gas production from the Mabrouk North East field, located on Block 10 onshore. TotalEnergies holds a 26.55% stake, alongside OQ (20%) and Shell (53.45%, operator). Gas production is expected to reach 500 million cubic feet per day by mid-2024. This gas will be injected into the Omani network, supplying both local industry and LNG export terminals. This start of production follows the signing of the concession agreement in December 2021.

TotalEnergies has also signed an agreement with Oman LNG for the purchase of 0.8 million tonnes of LNG per year for a ten-year period starting in 2025. This new contract will contribute to TotalEnergies’ global integrated LNG portfolio and strengthen its flexibility, making it possible to supply the European and Asian markets. This LNG will contribute to the reduction of emissions into the atmosphere since it will allow electricians who buy this gas to substitute it for coal and therefore avoid CO2 emissions (a gas-fired power station emits around half the CO2 a coal-fired power plant).

“These two announcements are in line with TotalEnergies’ ambition to contribute to the energy transition and strengthen the Company’s long-term partnerships with Oman LNG and the Sultanate of Oman”, said Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of TotalEnergies.

At last, TotalEnergies recently signed solar projects in Oman for a capacity of 30 MW, including a project to supply the seawater desalination plant Sharqiyah Desalination Company (17 MW) in joint venture with Veolia.
