MAPUTO, Jan 31 (Reuters) – TotalEnergies wants to restart its liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Mozambique in 2022, suspended due to insecurity in the region, the group’s chief executive, Patrick Pouyanné, said on Monday.

“When I see that life has resumed its course, the project can resume,” said Patrick Pouyanné during a visit to Mozambique.

“My goal is to restart in 2022,” he added.

This 20 billion dollar project (around 18 billion euros) was initially supposed to go into production in 2024. It was suspended after attacks launched by jihadists linked to the Islamic State group. (Report Manuel Mucari, written by Emma Rumney; French version Camille Raynaud)
