A final year student, victim of harassment, “attempted to commit suicide” in the middle of class on Wednesday in a high school in the east of Toulouse, we learned on Thursday from a police source and from the rectorate.

“Around 9:30 a.m., a final year student from the Stéphane-Hessel high school in Toulouse attempted suicide in class,” said the rectorate in a press release to AFP. According to a police source, the young man, born in 2005 and who had left a letter explaining his action by mentioning “school harassment by an individual”, stabbed himself in the abdomen in the classroom.

The students benefited from “collective and individual support”

“Immediately taken care of by the high school staff, he was then evacuated to a hospital by the SAMU,” said the rectorate. The police said on Friday that the young man was “doing much better”, adding that he would be “heard when his condition allows them”.

According to the rectorate, “the students in his class were taken to the documentation center (CDI) of the high school, where they benefited from collective and individual support” provided by a psychological unit.

“The listening cell set up yesterday morning (Wednesday, editor’s note) is extended until the end of the week” and “the academic services have also sent a nurse and a social worker as reinforcements”, underlined the rectorate , adding that an investigation was “currently underway in order to shed light on this matter”.
