Tournaments are coming to PS5 in 2022!

The CES 2022, convention on new technologies, took place in early January in Las Vegas. Jim Ryan, the president of sony, took the opportunity to make some announcements, including one in particular that caught our attention.

Indeed, a “Tournaments” feature will be added to the PlayStation 5. It will be released in 2022 and will allow players to compete in tournaments. This is obviously reminiscent of the PlayStation 4, which already offered this option at the time, thus giving the possibility to players around the world to challenge each other online.

It is obvious that Sony wishes, with its next-gen console, to turn a little more towards the world of esports. Already in 2021, the company had co-purchased EVO (Evolution Fighting Games Tournament), an event dedicated to fighting games like Street Fighter, Tekken or Mortal Kombat.

“In order to honor the trust you all have placed in Evo, we realized that we needed an experienced partner who respects the spirit of the Fighting Game Community (FGC). That is why we are delighted to announce that EVO is now in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment and RTS. This new partnership will aim to bring you extraordinary tournaments and competitive gaming experiences this year and beyond. “
