towards an overdose of films to come?

Within the catalog of the MCU Spider-Man is surely one of the characters most appreciated by the general public. Rights holders are well aware of this and are preparing projects accordingly.

In the long list of Marvel superheroes, Spider-Man is probably the most adored by the public but also the best known. Besides, the latest film, No Way Home with Tom Holland was an international card with more than 1.37 billion dollars in revenue, more than Black Panther. It’s very simple, it’s one of the licenses that works best. It is enough to also see the success of the Insomniac video games to be convinced of this. In this context of opulence, the rights holders wish to capitalize as much as possible.

Spider-man, a deluge of projects?

For now Spider-Man is still owned by Sony Pictures and the company intends to make the most of it to make money. This is how Sony has just announced two new Marvel feature films for the next few years. The first of them is planned for the November 8, 2024 in IMAX and the second for June 27, 2025. 2024 is like tomorrow but yet Sony gives no details on the nature of these two films. We don’t know if it’s a project with Tom Holland or a spin-off on a character like Miles Morales or even a villain, Venom or Morbius style, even if the disaster of this last film gives little hopes for a sequel.

A spin-off in the lot?

Despite the critical failures of Venom 1 and Venom 2, Sony does not intend to stop with Eddie Brock who sees a great opportunity for profitability. We officially know that a third episode is in the cards with Tom Hardy. On the other hand, there are also rumors of a Gwen Stacy movie, not to mention the fact that fans are clamoring for a sequel. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield who himself seems enthusiastic about the idea of donning the costume a third time. In fact, Sony wants to create a whole cinematic universe around the character by making the most of many protagonists. Next October, for example, we will have the right to a film on Kraven: The Hunter, reputed enemy of Peter Parker who is notably known for having defeated a gorilla with his bare hands. Even if he doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s a tough opponent. We can therefore expect everything but also remains to be seen if Spider-Man himself (or one of his actors) will appear in the film in one way or another.
