“Towed” heli – “warning light” due to sensitive incident on landing

The spectacular salvage by a transport helicopter of the emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 1, which stranded in the Tyrolean Axamer Lizum on Friday, was apparently preceded by a dramatic landing maneuver.

“After landing, a warning light came on. A further flight was no longer possible. There are strict regulations in aviation.” This is how Ralph Schüller, spokesman for the ÖAMTC air rescue service, explained at the weekend why Christophorus 1 got stuck in the Axamer Lizum ski area on Friday and finally had to be rescued in a spectacular way. Of course – like the “Tiroler Krone” in experience, there had previously been a tricky incident during the attempt to land. Helicopter slipped backwards “The helicopter slipped backwards while landing,” Schüller confirmed corresponding assumptions on Monday. “The situation was uncomfortable, but it was defused by the correct reaction from the pilot,” says Schüller. However, it came to his so-called mast moment overload. The helicopter was then no longer allowed to be put into operation due to strict regulations. Therefore, the ÖAMTC air rescue had to request a cargo helicopter, which flew the defective C 1 from the middle station of the Hoadlbahn cable car down into the valley. A truck was waiting there to transport the helicopter to the Innsbruck shipyard. Luckily there were no injuries.
