Toyota: presents its battery development projects

(CercleFinance.com) – Toyota announces that it is carrying out development work dedicated to liquid electrolyte batteries, which are those most frequently used on BEVs (battery electric vehicles) with the idea of improving their energy density, their competitiveness and their charging speed.

Takero Kato, President of BEV Factory, said next-generation BEVs would hit the market in 2026 and would account for 1.7 million of the 3.5 million BEVs Toyota plans to sell by 2030.

Three major technologies are currently being developed, which will lead to three versions of liquid electrolyte batteries – ‘Performance’, ‘Entry-level’ and ‘High performance’, expected in 2026, 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 respectively.

The manufacturer adds that it is also working on the development of a solid electrolyte lithium-ion battery with higher specifications with the aim of increasing autonomy by 50% compared to the Performance battery.
