Trackmania: Affi wins the 2022 TMGL Mid-Season Invitational, ushering in the new competitive format

the Trackmania Grand League: Mid-Season Invitational 2022 took place on January 29 and 30. At the end of the qualifying phase, these are therefore 16 players advancing to the Main Event. However, this year the Trackmania Grand League has experienced a big format change, which is much debated within the Trackmania community. In the end, it was Affi, from Team BDS, who snatched the victory.

For this 2022 season, Nadeo wanted to change things and now offers a format composed of many matches in 1v1v1v1. Each competitor will play 5 matches each week. To win a game, you need be the first to win three rounds. After 5 matches, the ranking of the week will be established. In the first two games, a seeding phase will take place. Players will compete in random groups in 1v1v1v1 and the top two in their group will go in the two best groups for the 3rd race. The 8 worst will go in their respective groups.

From race 3 to race 5, different divisions will appear, one for the top 4, one for the next 4 and so on. The two best of a group during a race pass to the group above, while the two worst go down. At the end of the matches, these groups will determine the results. Top 2 will get the Champion Medal, top 3-6 will get Gold, top 7-10 will get Silver, top 11-14 will get Bronze, and the bottom two will get nothing.

At the end of this Invitational, it’s Affi, the Swiss from Team BDS who snatches the victory winning along the way two Champion medals. He is followed by Gwen in second place. with a champion medal and a golden one. The Gameward player has already demonstrated last year that he shouldn’t be underestimated, that’s definitely still the case this year. It’s then the British Pac who comes to close the podium of this event.

This format change was eagerly awaited by the community, which deplored the too random side of the previous format, remains to be seen if all these changes will bear fruit.
