Once again, Trackmania changes the format of its TMGL and withdraws criticized rules from the last split. Pac, Affi and CarlJr have already qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

After strong criticism of the format of his last event, which moreover greatly changed the balance of power and which notably led to the abandonment of Carl Jr., Nadeo has announced yet another change, the 5th in three years, for the Trackmania Grand League 2022 which will start in March for the Spring Split. The esport circuit therefore abandons the multipliers and convoluted rules for the next season on Trackamania to return to a format which puts more emphasis on long-term performance.

The competition returns to a 1v1v1v1 match format on maps where the winner will be whoever wins the first three rounds. There will be two winners per match, and eight weeks of competitions where each participant will play 5 games. A ranking will be made for each week and Nadeo shared a graph explaining the format of these tournament days:

The regular season will take place on six weeks from March 6 to April 10, with a final to be held on April 24.

With the new rules, qualifying for the World Cup changes. Pac, Affi (Fall 2021 Final 2) and CarlJr (winner of the 2021 World Cup) have already qualified for the 2022 edition. Players who reach Final 2 (without the 3 players mentioned above) and the top 3 players from the regular season will also qualify for the Trackmania Grand League 2022 World Cup.

Finally, an invitation-only tournament, the TMGL Invitation Event, will be played between 32 participants on January 22 and 23, 2022. Also find the changes for the TMGL: Challenge the TMGL: Open on this blog post.
