Tragic! He dies without knowing that he has just hit a huge lottery jackpot

Andrew Gillion, 59, died suddenly after falling down the stairs. A few days earlier, he had won almost 10 million euros in the lottery.

Stroke of fate. A Scottish resident died in early January 2022 following a fall down the stairs. He was then with friends to celebrate the New Year, and found himself seriously injured in the neck due to a fall. He died a few days later while undergoing surgery. Surgeons wanted to ease the pressure created on his broken neck by operating, but Andrew Gillion did not survive. Already sad news in itself, made even sadder by the fact that the dead man on the operating table had just won a huge lottery jackpot… but he didn’t know it yet. In full mourning at her father’s house in Scotland, her 32-year-old daughter Lisa Thomas received a golden envelope shortly after her death.

In the envelope, the announcement that his father had just won 7.9 million pounds sterling, or 9.5 million euros, at the Postcode Lottery. For Lisa Thomas, mother of three, this is the last gift from her father. In an interview with the Daily Record, the mother of the family said: “When I found out he had really won, I was initially devastated. I could hear him calling me to tell me he had won and I know the first thing he would have thought of was that. would have been to take us all on holiday”. It is indeed difficult to manage such good news which follows so closely a tragic announcement. Yet Lisa Thomas manages to put things into perspective by finding an explanation for what turns out to be an unfortunate accident of chance. “There’s been so many ‘signs’ since he left and I’m sure he’s watching us from above waving his hand and saying, ‘I told you so’.

Off to Florida

Lisa Thomas explains that during the parties, she kindly made fun of her father whose the first Christmas card received was from the Postcode Lottery. His father then answered him “you’ll laugh less when I win!”. “And he was right it didn’t make me laugh, it made me cry” concludes the mother of the family. Andrew’s relatives ended up reaping all of the winnings from the recently dead man, believing that this isa sign from their beloved father. “We haven’t talked about what we’re going to do with the money yet, but we’ll probably plan a trip to Florida. That’s where I got married and I have a lot of good memories of this place with my father. I went there five times, and always with him so it might be difficult to go there without him, but that’s what he would have wanted”.
