Trail, MTB, Gravel… Strava is full of new outdoor sports

The Strava app has been quietly updated and now incorporates new outdoor sports disciplines. A few other small features have also been added.

Strava is getting a little makeover. The mobile platform dedicated to athletes, which has 100 million users, announced by press release that a big update has taken place. If it does not revolutionize the aesthetics of the app, new features can be found there. Strava particularly targets outdoor sports. Thus, four new disciplines are added to the list: trail running, gravel, mountain biking and VTTAE.

These categories join cycling, running, hiking, working out, yoga and many more among the nearly 40 types of activities supported by Strava for all of its athletes. The latter indicates that track sports, including mountain biking, hiking and running, are growing twice as fast as those practiced on the pavement, justifying its additions. The platform also offers subscribers Trail Routes, which highlights popular trail networks and trailheads.

New route information is also included, including difficulty, elevation or time to complete. Strava subscribers will also be able to access all downloaded Trail routes offline or out of cell coverage, beneficial when it comes to getaways in remote areas. Finally, Strava now offers to add a 3D map when uploading activity. These cards will be visible in the feed of all athletes, although their addition is only offered to subscribers.
