Train accident kills two in Czech Republic

Two people were killed and dozens more injured on Wednesday August 4 in the collision of two trains in the village of Milavce, in the west of the Czech Republic.

“We can confirm that two people lost their lives” in the accident, the Czech National Police announced on Twitter. “Dozens of injured have been reported at the scene. We help with the evacuation of passengers ”police added, adding that the accident happened shortly after 8 a.m.

“There are currently thirty-one people whose lives are not in danger who are being treated, seven people who are in critical condition and two who have died”, told the news site iRozhlas.cz Maria Svobodova, spokesperson for the rescue team in the Plzen region.

One of the trains involved in the collision, bearing the number Ex 351, was connecting Munich (Germany) to Prague; the other was a regional train connecting the Czech towns of Plzen and Domazlice.

Czech Transport Minister Karel Havlicek asserted that “Ex 351 did not respect the signal and collided with the regional train”.

Three people were killed and dozens injured in two train accidents in the Czech Republic in July 2020.
