Transparent masks for teachers

The National Education has ordered hundreds of thousands of transparent masks for distribution to teachers. Reception staff in contact with the public will also gradually be equipped.

To promote better communication with students, the National Education has ordered several hundred thousand transparent face protection masks. According to France Info, they are intended primarily for teachers who have deaf and hard of hearing students in class, as well as nursery school teachers. "We will already provide the teachers. Then all reception staff in contact with the public are concerned. ", said Secretary of State for Persons with Disabilities Sophie Cluzel.

At the beginning, these transparent masks "inclusive"were designed for deaf and hard of hearing people, in order to allow them to read lips and better perceive the expression of their interlocutor. However, hiding the lower part of the face can cause communication problems for many people, especially the little ones at school, learning to read and read.

"More than 100,000 masks will be made by the end of the month. Transparent, reusable masks, washable 25 times at 60 ° C, which will be available in large numbers in the fall ", said Sophie Cluzel to Sunday newspaper. "Currently, five models of transparent masks are approved, two of which were designed in companies employing people with disabilities", she added.

Since September 1, some 385,000 children with disabilities have returned to school, 6% more than last year. However, some are deprived of schooling. Back to school can indeed be a very difficult time for parents of children with disabilities. The associations denounce support that is inadequate to the needs of students or only part-time, even cases where families are not offered any schooling.

A single toll-free number has been set up to answer them, 0805 805 110 (or 0800 730 123, accessible to hearing-impaired people). He received "about a thousand calls " since its opening in July, "less than in previous years", Sophie Cluzel concluded.
