2022 is just around the corner. We already know which trends will be retained and which we have left behind, we have also clarified. But what is new on the fashion horizon? What styles will we see everywhere in the coming year?

While we are slowly preparing for the new year, it is not only high time to kick the old trends out of our wardrobes, the new trends should of course follow immediately. Because what else are we clearing up all the space for, if not for the latest fashion trends in 2022? A trend forecast.

Nostalgia: the Y2K styles

One thing is already certain: the hype around the 2000s is far from over – and especially not in the fashion world. Because while in 2021 we are relying on large, colorful rings, T-shirts with childish prints and velvety jogging suits à la Paris Hilton, the Y2K trends will continue to develop in the new year.

MiuMiu already warned us at the Paris Fashion Week in autumn: Low-Rise is officially back again. Because skirts and trousers are now being worn more and more below the waistline. Not only unfamiliar, but also really uncomfortable – especially in the cold season. Maybe a trend after all that we will not allow to come up to us until summer.

Who still remembers Britney Spears in her butterfly tops 20 years ago? Already forgotten?! Then this trend will definitely give us a helping hand. Numerous designers: inside, like Donatella Versace, are relying on the butterflies on the cleavage for the new 2022 season.

The clutch is back

Fans of small handbags can now look forward to an even bigger addition. Because in the coming year we will see more of them. While mini-bags have made their way from the catwalk to street style, the clutch is now available in a retro version. Starting with the Bottega Veneta Pouch-Bag, various brands created their own version of the clutch. Even fashion houses like Hermès, which are not really concerned with the latest fashion trends, are now coming out with a variation of the clutch-like bag.

But that was not all. If you are not a big fan of small handbags, you can still follow the trend. Fendi demonstrates how to do it on the catwalk, showing how large bags can be tucked under the arm for a clutch moment. So if you don’t have a clutch yet, you have the opportunity to join the trend anyway.

Metal tones as a continuation of the dopamine dressing

While we were already seeing more and more dopamine dressing at the Fashion Weeks this year, the colorful trend is now being continued. Because shimmering metal tones are the latest craze in the new year. Oscar de la Renta already had models walk the catwalk in golden wardrobes at Fashion Week in autumn – closely followed by the Rodarte brand, who impressed with rose-gold dresses on the runway.

How can we combine these new colors in our wardrobe? There is a very clear answer to this: in color blocking! Because if we’re going to be colorful, then we’ll do it right! The shimmering look that the metal tones spray gives the look a classy upgrade and looks like more than just randomly colored styling. Add a few sequins on the bronze-colored jacket and we’re already out and about in fashion in the New Year.

Catsuits – all one

When we think of the tight-fitting full-body suits, one celebrity comes to mind: Kim Kardashian. The TV star not only appeared at the Met Gala 2021 in a black, tight-fitting suit, she has almost established the trend piece as her trademark. Whether in flashy pink, inconspicuous black or classy blue: catsuits are conquering the catwalks of current fashion shows and will increasingly be seen in street style in the coming year.

But it is not just Balenciaga that is entering the fashion market with more and more catsuits. Other big bands, such as Yves Saint Laurent, Balmain and Burberry, let models walk the catwalk in their tight bodies. There is no question that this trend has its practical side. But the catsuit can do even more. If you are looking for a sexy and at the same time sporty look, you will find it with this tight suit.

Mini skirt get’s wild

We all know and love it: the miniskirt. For the coming year, however, the trend piece will get a color upgrade, because it will be really colorful! While Chanel was already relying on checks and yellows in the 90s style at the fashion weeks in autumn, Dior impresses with colorful styles from the 60s.

If the colorful mini skirt is not enough for you, you can also wear a matching jacket. Whether in the classic tweed fabric from Chanel or rather in a younger, more casual version. In the New Year we love the monochrome look more than ever.
