They were few in the courtroom on Monday, during the opening of the trial of the Nice attacks. Few of the victims of the attack were able to make it to the hearing. Célia, present on the Promenade des Anglais and who lost her mother that evening, hopes to better understand the profile of the suspects and the organization of the attack, thanks to this trial.

The trial of the seven of the eight accused of the Nice attack resumes this morning in Paris. A trial particularly awaited by the victims of this attack of July 14, 2016 which should shed light on the organization of this attack which killed 86 people and injured 318 others. And for the first time this Tuesday, the defendants will speak in court.

However, few victims chose to travel to Paris to attend the opening of the hearing. Among them, Célia, present on the Promenade des Anglais that evening and who lost her mother there. “Some time ago, I didn’t expect anything from this trial,” she explains as she leaves the courtroom. But, “my obsession is the investigation that is underway in Nice for breach of security. All the anger we have is more on this file. And we will not let go, “adds she.

The Nice security system not addressed

“Making an event that brings together so many people a few months after November 13 (2015, editor’s note), with around sixty police officers, without concrete blocks, with no device, is unthinkable”, underlines Célia. Despite everything, the young woman and the thirty civil parties who made the trip to Paris, hope to better understand the profile of the accused and the organization of the attack.

Because the Advocates General recalled from the opening of the hearing on Monday that the security system of July 14, 2016 in Nice was not the subject of the trial. A point that the civil parties like Célia, however, will mention a little during their future speeches.
