Tribute to the victims of Hamas: families demand that the presence of LFI be “banned”

Several families of the French victims of the Hamas attacks of October 7 in Israel requested Tuesday, in a letter addressed to Emmanuel Macron, that the presence of La France insoumise be “banned” at the tribute which will be paid on February 7 in Paris to the victims of the terrorist movement.

“Between indecency, lack of respect, relativism and negationism”

Last week, the head of the LFI deputies Mathilde Panot announced that she would attend this tribute which will be held at the monument for the victims of terrorism, on the Esplanade des Invalides. “I will be present (…) and I asked that tribute be paid to all the French victims of this war in the Middle East”, therefore including the Franco-Palestinians killed in Gaza by the Israeli army, announced the rebellious MP.

“We, the families of the victims of the Hamas terrorists, solemnly request that any presence of France Insoumise be prohibited at the national tribute which will be paid to the 42 Franco-Israeli victims of 7/10,” write the representatives of five families from victims in a letter. “This letter was delivered today (Tuesday, editor’s note) to the Elysée so that the president is well aware of the expectations of families,” Mélanie Pauli-Geysse, president of the No Silence collective, told AFP.

This collective, which presents itself as “feminist”, “humanist” and “universalist”, intends to “denounce the sexual crimes committed by Hamas”. “We rely on a network of elected officials, diverse and varied,” explained Mélanie Pauli-Geysse. “Between indecency, lack of respect, relativism and negationism, France Insoumise and its spokespersons have distinguished themselves by extremely serious comments since the pogrom of October 7,” accuse the families of the victims in the letter.

“We thank you very much for wanting to honor the memory of the victims, and hope that this tribute takes place with the greatest respect and with real solemnity,” they write again, accusing LFI in particular of “bearing a very heavy responsibility in the explosion of Judeophobia in our country. Contacted, the coordinator of the movement, Manuel Bompard, did not wish to react to this letter.

La France insoumise created controversy after the attacks of October 7, in particular by refusing to qualify Hamas as a “terrorist” group, preferring to speak of “war crimes”. The Hamas attack, violence and unprecedented scale in the history of the country, led to the death of around 1,140 people, the majority of them civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli data.
