Tribute to the victims of terrorism: what to remember from Gabriel Attal’s speech


Prime Minister Gabriel Attal pays tribute Monday in Arras to the victims of terrorism, on the occasion of the annual day dedicated to them, in the city where a teacher, Dominique Bernard, was killed five months ago by a former student radicalized. Europe 1 takes stock of the declarations of the head of government.

“We will fight and we will win”

During his speech in the presence of victims and families of victims of terrorism, Gabriel Attal recalled the importance of continuing the memory of the attacks. “We must pass on the memory of these attacks from generation to generation,” he said. Before affirming: “We will fight and we will win” in the face of the Islamic terrorist threat, stressing that “school is the best weapon to fight terrorists”.

“We are the guardians of the memory of Samuel Paty”

Invited to speak, a professor from the Bois d’Aulne college affirmed “to now be the guardians of the memory of Samuel Paty”, a professor of History and Geography murdered on October 16, 2020. She also brought her support for the teaching team as well as the students of the establishment of Dominique Bernard, French teacher killed in October 2023.

“We, teachers, are targets because we are teachers. But we are not giving up,” she said.

Many elected officials made the trip

Arriving in Arras, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal first greeted the elected officials who came to the ceremony, before settling down. Among the ranks are the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, the Minister of Education Nicole Belloubet but also Marine Le Pen, National Rally MP for Pas-de-Calais.
