Troll on Netflix: will the monster movie have a sequel?

The final scene of “Troll” suggests a sequel, but what about Netflix?

Since its release, Troll has dominated the Netflix rankings. This Norwegian film directed by Roar Uthaug (Tomb Raider) has even become the most viewed non-English speaking work of all time on the platform.

It must be said that the formula changes a little from American blockbusters. By drawing on Scandinavian folklore, Troll offers a fast-paced adventure, between ambitious action scenes and hints of humor.

At the end of the film, one of the main characters speculates that other trolls might still be alive. The credits begin, then a sequence takes the viewer back inside the mountain where the first creature awoke. Buried under a pile of stones, a monster suddenly appears.

There is no doubt: with this ending, a sequel is more than suggested, but for the moment, the platform has not given the green light. In an interview with What’s On Netflix, director Roar Uthaug and producer Kristian Strand Sinkerud said:

As filmmakers, we always have the ambition to create a story that can go beyond a single film. Of course we hope to do a sequel, and even two, but that will depend on the audience’s response.”. Troll’s future seems to be on the right track.

Troll is available on Netflix.
