Troy: why did the production change its filming location in a hurry?

Broadcast on Sunday July 10, 2022 from 11:05 p.m. on TF1 series films, the film Troy was forced to change filming location in disaster. Télé Star reveals to you today why.

Released in cinemas in 2004, the blockbuster Troyrealized by Wolfgang Petersen, will be rebroadcast on Sunday July 10, 2022, from 11:05 p.m. on the channel TF1 film series. Worn by brad pittEric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane KrugerBrian Cox, Sean Bean and Peter O’Toole, this feature film is in fact the cinematographic adaptation of Homer’s Iliad. This film was a great commercial success during its theatrical release, given that it raked in nearly $500 million in worldwide box office receipts, for an estimated production budget of $175 million. In France, Troy achieved more than 2.7 million cinema admissions.

Filming for this blockbuster began at Shepperton Studios in England on April 22, 2003. This is where the various interiors of the film were built, including the palace of Troy, as well as the famous horse. The rest of the feature film was filmed on the island of Malta, at Fort Ricasoli, where the besieged city was rebuilt, and in Mexico, where some battle scenes were filmed. At the beginning, some sequences of the film were to be recorded in Morocco. However, due to the war in Iraq, the production preferred to cancel the filming of Troy in this country, to then relocate the shots to the Mexican Pacific coast.

Troy: hurricanes disrupted filming in Mexico

Despite this change, the filming of the blockbuster was not easy. In effect, the production had to deal with two hurricanes which destroyed part of the sets in Mexico. The second happened a week before the end of filming. Moreover, since the shots were going cause certain disturbances in the Mexican environmentthe production is committed to replanting the cacti that were removed from the land where the action of the film was supposed to take place. The producers of Troy are also committed to preserving a species of turtle living on the Mexican coast.
