Truck driver dies buried in Lafarge cement plant

A delivery driver died this Monday, December 4, on a site of the Lafarge cement manufacturer in Port-la-Nouvelle (Aude), buried under the rubble transported by his truck. An investigation was opened for “involuntary manslaughter” and psychological assistance was put in place for the site’s employees.

The victim, an experienced employee aged around fifty, tried to raise the alarm by making a call, said the same source.

The alert was given at five o’clock in the morning, according to information from the Independent, allowing several rescue teams to go to the scene, located two kilometers from the factory, but despite their efforts, they did not were unable to resuscitate the victim.

Opening an investigation

The Narbonne public prosecutor’s office confirmed the opening of an investigation. The victim, employed by a subcontractor of the cement manufacturer Lafarge, had gotten out of his vehicle to “ensure the unloading of the goods”, described the source close to the case. “Expertises will be carried out to determine the causes of this death,” indicated this same source, adding that the labor inspectorate had been jointly involved. Psychological assistance has been put in place for site employees.
