Trucker with heart – wish of a 7-year-old with a truck convoy fulfilled

The dream of 7-year-old Nico from Klagenfurt was the trigger for a special event on Saturday. 130 trucks rolled up for the boy.

In 2014, on his seventh birthday, Nico from Klagenfurt posted his wish on the internet from his wheelchair to be allowed to ride in a truck. And, like in singer Jonny Hill’s 1979 hit “Teddy Bear 1.4,” a few truckers answered the call and drove to Nico’s house. On Saturday there were even 130 truck drivers who fulfilled this wish, because the leader at the time, East Tyrolean Ernst Trost, turned a spontaneous action into the annual event “Teddybär 1.4-Trucker mit Herz” people with and without disabilities as well as entire families marveled at the trucks at the farmer’s market in Faak and took the opportunity to drive in a convoy in the up to 680 hp tractors. The drivers and their new co-drivers came from all over the place. Rudi from Maria Saal, who has been spastic since birth, has been there every year so far. “We can’t afford to leave that out, it means so much to him,” says Mama Sonja. A family came from Zell am See because their six-year-old daughter really wanted to get into a truck. Some drivers even changed their routes for the campaign. The trucker couple Gerhard and Tatjana came from Montenegro and stopped in Faak before returning home to Bavaria. The Villach company Mössler parked nine trucks. Driver Daniel has been there with pleasure from the very beginning. “The children are a little shy at first, but then they want to know everything about the trucks, our work and our lives,” the trucker laughs heartily.
