A man set himself on fire in front of the New York courthouse where the trial against former US President Donald Trump is ongoing. Several US media outlets reported this unanimously. A live CNN broadcast showed the incident in a park across the street from the courthouse. The man threw leaflets into the air, a senior law enforcement official told CNN. He then pulled something out of a backpack and set himself on fire, the officer is quoted as saying. Several people rushed to him and tried to smother the flames. Video footage shows several police officers finally putting out the fire with fire extinguishers. Rescue workers then took the man away.
The background to the incident is still completely unclear. It is also not known what condition the man is in.
