Tuesday strike at the SNCF: SUD-rail plans a renewable movement

The strike day against high prices, scheduled for Tuesday at the call of the CGT, was joined by FO, Solidaires, FSU and several student unions.

Bad news for vacationers who have taken their train ticket for the Toussaint holidays. Some SNCF unions could decide to go on renewable strike. The announcement was made this morning at the microphone of BFMTV by the SUD-rail union representative, Fabien Villedieu: “We plan to go on a renewable strike“, he simply explained.

Originally the CGT-cheminots and SUD-rail had decided to join the day of action on Tuesday, October 18 at the call of the CGT central, but also FO, Solidaires, FSU and several student unions. The objective, to ask for wage increases and to show their support for the strikers in the refineries and fuel depots.

Strike as the holidays approach

Many sectors could decide to join the strike. In addition to the SNCF railway workers, the RATP should also find itself penalized. The public service will also be present. The UFSE-CGT, the leading union in the sector, filed a notice for the three sides State, territorial and hospital. At the origin of the movement, the energy sector responded present. The TotalEnergies refineries in Donges (Loire-Atlantique) and that of Normandy, near Le Havre, have already voted to strike until Wednesday 1 p.m. The FNME-CGT says it wishes a “extension (…) to all energy companies“.

This social movement, combined with a still complicated situation in many service stations, sows doubt on vacation departures. Many French people are worried about not being able to leave. A deadline that the unions want to use as a means of pressure to force companies to sit down at the negotiating table and agree to wage increases.
