TUNIS (Reuters) – Tunisian President Kais Saied’s chief of staff, Nadia Akacha, announced her resignation on Monday over “fundamental differences of opinion” regarding the country’s interests.
Nadia Akacha has been a close adviser to the Tunisian president since he came to power in 2019, a position further reinforced last July, when Kaïs Saïed suspended the work of parliament before assuming full executive powers, an initiative described as coup d’etat by its opponents.
“I have decided to resign. Fundamental differences of opinion on Tunisia’s interests have emerged and I believe it is my duty to step down,” Nadia Akacha wrote on her Facebook account without giving further details. .
The presidential palace did not officially confirm or comment on this announcement immediately.
Nadia Akacha was Kaïs Saïed’s closest and most powerful adviser and the preferred intermediary to talk to him, according to members of the Tunisian government, foreign diplomats and former members of the president’s cabinet.
