An 83-year-old from Wels was driving on the Innkreis Autobahn on Friday. The unusual thing about it: the elderly gentleman was not sitting in the car, but on his electric wheelchair.
You sometimes see a lot on the road, but this picture is extraordinary: on Friday afternoon, a wheelchair user mingled with the vehicles on the Innkreis motorway. Drivers noticed the unusual road user and called the police. The officials then found the wheelchair driver in the Noitzmühle tunnel and were able to stop him there. The motorway tunnel was closed for around 20 minutes because of the danger in the flow of traffic. Meanwhile, the emergency services accompanied the 83-year-old home. No injury, but an administrative penalty. The man must have been confused and lost his bearings – and suddenly ended up on the freeway. Fortunately, the dangerous incident ended well: neither the 83-year-old Welser and other drivers were injured on the “excursion”. The wheelchair driver is now threatened with an administrative penalty for unauthorized driving on the motorway.
