Suspected of preparing attacks against synagogues, churches and the Iraqi embassy, 32 people, suspected of belonging to the jihadist group Islamic State, were arrested by the Turkish authorities. The country’s police announced last week a vast search in 32 cities.
Turkish authorities announced Friday the arrest of 32 suspects, alleged members of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group suspected of preparing attacks against synagogues, churches and the Iraqi embassy. According to a security source at AFP, these thirty-two people were arrested during raids by security forces and the intelligence services (MIT) in nine different cities, including Istanbul and Ankara, the capital.
A vast search in 32 cities
“Two of the suspects (…) went to scout synagogues and churches,” said this source, also mentioning a third man who was planning an attack against the Iraqi representation. According to this source, the three suspects are important members of the jihadist group.
Turkish police announced last week a vast search in 32 cities across the country and the arrest of more than 300 people for alleged links with ISIS.
